Dear reader,
Happy Spring!
Two years ago this month, I put my faith in God into action, and decided to take the plunge and start a company. 3 paper lines and over 80 stamps later, FontWerks is the result two years of hard work, sacrifice and the belief that one can live one's dream. It has been an incredible journey with lots of learning, creating, scrapbooking and networking. To tell you the truth, when I first started, it was never my intention to get as "big" as we have; it was mainly to feed my need for supplies that I couldn't find anywhere else, and perhaps be a side job. Through the fantastic support and demand from you, our faithful customers, we have grown so rapidly and furiously that sometimes I think God must be watching from Heaven thinking,"now let's see how she handles THAT one." LOL.
FontWerks officially launched on May 1st 2004 on National Scrapbooking Day, at a special crop, complete with Krispy Kremes. I remember the nervous anticipation I felt, as I put my products out there for consumer feedback. You cannot imagine the relief and gratefulness I felt when the resulting feedback was more than positive! It fuels my drive to keep on doing what I do. So, thank you, thank you.
As part of our celebrations for our 2nd birthday, FontWerks will be hosting a birthday bash on our blog between April 15-30, with surprise giveaways, layout/project shares, photos and stories from "behind the scenes," and yes, a sale too. Keep checking back to the blog and our website for details! Our celebrations will continue with the May newsletter with new updates and events as well.
The Effers put out monthly (going to weekly) Dares which simply start with a theme and encourages artists to create as they felt led to, to feel free to interpret the dare and share their work with the world. This month FontWerks is proud to feature them as Friends of FontWerks. What impresses me about these ladies is their determination to let their voice to heard through their art – you see their personality, their vision, their selves in each paintbrush stroke, each block of journaling, each photo. I love their edgy feel and was so glad to meet every one of them at CHA in February. To Missy, Kristina, Meghan and Gen – it is a real pleasure to know you and to have your work featured here at FontWerks this month.
This month, the Effers dared us to use the theme "Real Women..." – the design team rose to the challenge and their dare layouts can be seen in the Design Team Gallery.
We are sad to announce that Erin Lincoln has resigned from our team to pursue an amazing and well deserved opportunity that will hopefully be announced soon. Erin has been an integral part of our team, that it is beyond hard to let her go. Erin, you have been our teammate, our friend, our conspirator, our inspiration and fellow book-addict. As we have said, this is not "goodbye", it's "see you later". All the best to you and we will miss you!!
I got the incredible opportunity to meet up with all the current FontWerks product designers at a crop last month at Treasury of Memories in Bellingham, Washington – how fun it was to see Elsie Flannigan, Tia Bennett and Kate Teague. We brought in the new stamps from Elsie and Tia, and Kate's new papers to the store, and they sold out so quickly, it was amazing! Here are some recaps from Kate and Elsie, as well as a link to The Scrapbook Oasis where Elsie taught last weekend (where apparently her stamps sold out the day after they arrived at the store!)
Fun stuff! And that is why we have done this for the last two years, and will continue for as many years as there are to come!
